OUR HISTORY
- Acquisition of Land (1983–1986)
Pastor A.P. Mensah, the President of Central Ghana Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (CGC) and the then estate manager, J.I. Addai, in 1986 wrote a letter to the Kumasi land department for the legal acquisition of a parcel of land at Barekese, which was supposed to have been granted to the Conference development since 1983. The purpose of the letter was that it was difficult for the Conference to secure the original document of the site plan and agreement from the Barekese Chief, Nana Baffour-Danquah II.
- Expansion of SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kwadaso (2005–2014)
The land was originally procured for an agricultural training center, but it was left unattended for so many years, which led to so many encroachers. By 2014, the SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kwadaso, had expanded significantly in terms of student population. The former principal, Mr. Daniel Attah, decided to look for another campus to accommodate the increasing number of students. It was at that point that it was discovered that the Central Ghana Conference had a land at Barakese. The Central Ghana Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (C.G.C.) established the SDA Nurses Training College, Kwadaso, now SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kwadaso, in 2005. Mr. Daniel Attah-Tuffour had discussed with the executives of Central Ghana Conference (C.G.C.) to release the land to the school to develop so that it can accommodate the increasing number of students. Central Ghana Conference(C.G.C.) agreed and gave the land to the school, so the plan to develop the land and accommodate students began.
- Establishment of the Barekese Campus (2014)
In 2014, the SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kwadaso, established a new campus in Barekese to accommodate the growing population in Kwadaso. The school started with 2 three-story classroom blocks, a hostel facility to accommodate the first batch of students in 2014. Barekese was developed with the intention of moving the SDA Nursing and Training College, Kwadaso, to Barekese permanently.
- Transition to Independence (2024)
In early 2024, the plan to separate the two schools began to allow Barekese to have an independent administration from SDA NMTC, Kwadaso. This idea was backed by the Board of SDA NMTC, Kwadaso, at its Board Meeting held on 30th April, 2024. Dr. Yvonne Asiedu the former Principal at SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Asamang, is the Principal of SDA College of Health, Barekese.
